Whether you are trying to buy a house or car, find a partner, get them to marry you, or are working in a career where you want to move up the ladder in the shortest time and route possible, there are secrets to success that you can apply to get what you want.

I have documented 7 key strategies that you need to follow to get ensure that you excel in your career, and in my book Claim That Job, I will take you through the process in more detail. Here are my 7 key strategies that you can start putting into action right away if you want to start taking control of your career:

1. Be committed to the development of your career. Decide deep down that the ultimate goal that you have set yourself is the goal that you are going to achieve. Don’t be half-hearted, be serious, be in a position where you are ready to buy, ie. do everything in your power to leanr what you need to learn, and do what you need to do to be the success that you have always wanted to be.

2. Decide what it is that you want. Think about any limiting beliefs that you may have had that have taken you to where you are now. Think of the one thing that you would have to do if money was not an object. If you won the lottery tomorrow, what one thing would you still have to do. Try to find your passion, think about what you want to experience at work, what type of manager and people you want to work for. Think big, think about what you can do now. Know exactly what you are looking for.

3. What type of person do you need be to attract the job you want. Be the type of person who will be perfect for what you are looking for. Look at people who are successful in the area that you want to excel in and imitate them. You attract into your life what you are deep down inside.

4. Be visible. Make sure the right people know you exist. Contact quality agencies, send your details to carefully selected companies, when you complete a porject at work, make sure the right people, the decision makers and senior managers know about the role you played in the delivery of the project.

5. Network and make quality contacts and nurture those contacts. You are usually only 6 people or contacts away from what you want so tap into your present network of people. Look at the people you are connected with. Make sure they know what you want and ask them to tap into the people they are connected with. Remember, the greater your database of people, the higher the probability of connecting with the right people to get what you want.

6. Have an attention grabbing device. Find out what your best qualities are, reduce it down to one thing, and use that quality in every area of your life. It must be something that separates you from the crowd. You must aim to be the best in your field, and to do that you must be seen as the expert in your field. A memorable quality about you will give you an edge.

7. Understand the rules that need to be played out in the workplace to succeed. You wouldn’t play a game of chess or golf or football without understanding the rules of the game, but often many people go into the workplace without understanding that there are rules to be followed if you want to rise up the ladder.

How many people have you seen working hard in the corner, almost running the department they work for, but receive little or no recognition, whereas there are people who are less qualified and experienced who are sailing through the ranks ahead of them.
