How to Use Goal Setting to Manage Your Career
Category: Career Advice , Career Management
In today’s working environment where, people are so busy that they sometimes forget what they were working for and it is important to set some goals to organize your life. Goals give you a focal point when you are overwhelmed with all your daily tasks. In the case of long-term goals, keeping your eye on the prize can keep you a perspective and provide the strength to continue working on all the small projects you need to complete to accomplish them.Â
You may need the advice of a skills coach. This differs from a mentor because a coach helps you in just one area. Perhaps you have a problem with public speaking. One of your co-workers is excellent at it. You can consider asking him to work with you and to give you tips. Most people are flattered that they have been asked and are more than happy to help. Â
You may feel that you need additional training. Many colleges offer night courses for working adults. If you feel that you do not have the time to attend classes, there are many on-line courses being offered that give you the flexibility that you may need.Â
Once you have produced a set of goals, discuss them with your supervisor and ask for any input that he might have. He may come up with different suggestions than anyone else has since he is more familiar with your particular position. He may not be able to give you much of his time, but don’t be discouraged. After all these are your goals and your ticket to a brighter and more successful future.Â
