10 Motivation Tips

Posted by Editor @ 3:00 AM, Wednesday May 14th, 2008

Staying motivated, especially when working on projects or tasks that are stressful, can be difficult at times. Even though you may be working against a tight deadline, you just can’t seem to keep up with tasks that need to be completed. Motivation is that driving force that helps us complete the goals in our lives. So, how can you stay motivated when you’re just not interested in the tasks at hand?

The following tips may be able to help you get back on track and complete your goals on or before the deadline.

Tip #1: Break Down Large Tasks

If you’re working on a project that requires you to perform many tasks or a few larger tasks, breaking them down into smaller tasks can help you stay motivated. Depending on your deadline, doing a little bit each day will make the project seem easier and less stressful.

Tip #2: Create a List

Understanding exactly what you need to get done during the day can help you stay on track and motivated at the same time.

Tip #3: Pace Yourself

Waiting until the last minute to complete a project will only increase your anxiety and stress levels. Pacing yourself by determining how much time you have at the beginning of the project, meeting with other team members on a regular basis to see where everyone is on their individual tasks, and getting a little bit done at a time can help you stay motivated.

Tip #4: Talk to Others

You can derive a lot of positive energy by talking to others. Talk to team members, friends, and family about the nature of your work. Positive feedback will increase motivation.

Tip #5: Imagine the Project is Finished

After completing a project, don’t you feel better about your job and the world in general? When feeling unmotivated, imagine turning in your last report or giving your final speech for a project. This should increase your motivation.

Tip #6: Treat Yourself

Rewarding yourself for completing tasks on time can be a powerful motivator. Depending on your interests and time, have lunch with a friend, go shopping after work or go out for a nice dinner.

Tip #7: Rediscover Your Passions

If you love to run in the park, play outside with your kids, or read a good book on a Sunday afternoon, but you haven’t had the time lately, make the time. Having hobbies and activities you can look forward to after work can help you stay motivated during the day.

Tip #8: Decorate Your Office

Pictures of friends, family, or places you’ve traveled to can all be a source of inspiration and motivation. Purchase a funny calendar or add a few knickknacks to your desk so you can have a good laugh each day.

Tip #9: Ask Questions during Meetings

Being an active member of a team can help you stay motivated and alert to any changes that may be occurring with the project. Ask questions, offer feedback and listen to other members so you will always know what’s going on.

Tip #10: Ask for Help

If you can’t complete all the tasks assigned to you or you’ve having difficulty finding the right information, ask for help. Working with another person is a great motivator.
