Unemployment figures have dipped as jobless figures showed a slow down in July. According to Associated Press, employers sharply scaled back on lay offs in July, and the unemployment rate dipped for the first time in 15 months.
AP said a net total of 247,000 jobs were lost last month, the fewest in a year. That compares with 443,000 jobs that disappeared in June. And the unemployment rate for July declined to 9.4 percent from 9.5 percent in June.
AP say slower job losses are occurring because companies aren’t cutting investment and spending as drastically as they had been during the depths of the recession, which came in the final quarter of last year and carried over into the first quarter of this year.
This is good news for many people, but there are still millions of people who are unenployed or have lost their jobs recently and it has been suggested that some people have given up looking. Having said that, the slowdown in job losses does signal that things are getting better.
If you are employed or are even lookin for work after a lay off, there is a need to to still be vigilant and to recession proof your career so that you can either keep their current job, or find a job easily if you are out of work.
